Once again the Geography Department has been very pleased to take part
in this scheme organised by the Ordnance Survey.
Each Year 7 pupil has been given their own free copy of the 1: 25,000 map of the Nottingham area so they can practise their map reading skills at home and even pass on their skills to one or two parents who may be a little rusty!
Pupils also received a ‘Map Reading Made Easy Peasy’ booklet which gives details of a competition to win a Ray Mears Bushcraft Day! Don’t forget to send in your entries by the closing date of February 28th 2006 if you are interested. Pupils can also access the Ordnance Survey website: www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/mapzone either at home or in the library where they can have fun and games-literally!
Some of the Year 7s had some rather interesting ideas of how they would use their maps:
Eve Hunter is going to use her map to plan her horse riding route with her friend so that she ‘knows where she is going for once!’ Louis Hope is going to use his to help him do his’ homework and to revise.’ Adam Ashford will be able to ‘plan his cross country practice routes’ whilst Megan Roche is going to ‘lend hers to her Mum and Dad so they don’t get lost!’
